John Cena Shares Candid Update on His Hair Transformation

John Cena is opening up about his experience with hair transplant surgery, saying the procedures have “completely changed” his life both personally and professionally.

Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con, the actor and former WWE champion revealed that he recently underwent a second hair transplant, adding that he’s pleased with the progress and optimistic about the final results.

More Than 20 Hours in Surgery

Cena explained that he underwent two follicular unit extraction (FUE) procedures, a widely used hair restoration technique that moves individual hair follicles from one area of the scalp to another.

His first procedure lasted 13½ hours, while the second took eight hours, bringing his total time in surgery to more than 21 hours. He credited his surgeon for helping him regain confidence and said the treatment has had a significant impact on his life.

Why He Shaved His Head

Fans recently noticed Cena sporting a shaved hairstyle, and he explained that it was part of the treatment process.

According to Cena, shaving his head made it easier for doctors to place the transplanted follicles more efficiently and improve the overall results. He said he fully trusts the process and is looking forward to seeing the final outcome as his hair continues to grow.

No Longer Hiding Hair Loss

Cena has spoken openly in recent months about struggling with hair thinning, admitting that comments from WWE fans motivated him to explore treatment options.

He said those reactions encouraged him to learn more about scalp health and ultimately seek professional help rather than continue trying to hide the issue.

A Daily Hair Care Routine

In addition to surgery, Cena said he now follows a regular hair care routine that includes red-light therapy, minoxidil, specialized shampoo and conditioner, and vitamins.

According to the American Hair Loss Association, FUE is a minimally invasive procedure that involves transplanting individual hair follicles. While results vary from person to person, transplanted hair typically begins growing naturally over several months.

Removing the Stigma Around Hair Restoration

Cena also expressed regret that he waited so long before undergoing treatment. He believes there should be less stigma surrounding hair restoration, noting that millions of men experience some degree of hair loss.

He added that restoring his hair has given him greater confidence and expanded the range of acting roles he feels comfortable pursuing.
