A California woman once referred to locally as the “party mom” has been sentenced to nearly 36 years in prison after being convicted of numerous crimes involving underage teenagers.
Shannon Marie O’Connor, also known as Shannon Bruga, received a sentence of 35 years and 10 months in Santa Clara County following her conviction on dozens of charges earlier this year.
Prosecutors Described Disturbing Parties
According to prosecutors, O’Connor hosted multiple alcohol-fueled gatherings involving teenagers, many of whom were reportedly just 14 and 15 years old.
Authorities alleged she provided alcohol, encouraged dangerous behavior and created situations where intoxicated minors were placed at serious risk.
Convicted on Multiple Charges
O’Connor was found guilty on charges that included facilitating sexual assaults involving minors, child endangerment, witness intimidation and other offenses tied to the gatherings.
Prosecutors argued that some victims were too intoxicated to properly consent during incidents that occurred at the parties.
Emotional Testimony During Sentencing
The sentencing hearing reportedly included emotional testimony from victims and family members. One victim told the court the trauma left her struggling with suicidal thoughts.
Parents also testified about concerns that O’Connor groomed teenagers by buying gifts, building trust and encouraging secrecy.
Authorities Reject the ‘Party Mom’ Label
Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen strongly criticized attempts to portray O’Connor as simply an overly permissive parent.
Officials argued the case involved serious criminal conduct that placed vulnerable teenagers in dangerous and traumatic situations rather than harmless underage partying.
Additional Incidents Revealed
Investigators said O’Connor also allegedly encouraged teens to sneak out late at night and attend gatherings where alcohol was provided. In one separate incident, prosecutors claimed she allowed unsafe behavior involving minors and vehicles in a school parking lot.
Authorities eventually arrested O’Connor in Idaho in 2021 after locating her during the investigation.
Community Left Shocked
The case drew widespread attention due to the affluent Los Gatos neighborhood where many of the incidents allegedly occurred. Prosecutors said the abuse and manipulation happened over multiple parties between 2020 and 2021.
The investigation ultimately uncovered numerous allegations involving teenagers from the local community.
A Case That Sparked Strong Reactions
The sentencing closes one of the most closely watched criminal cases in the area in recent years. Prosecutors said the lengthy prison term reflects the seriousness of the harm caused to the victims and the lasting emotional impact described in court.
