Meghan Markle stepped out in a piece of Princess Diana’s jewelry while attending a special event in Canada with Prince Harry, adding another meaningful connection to Harry’s late mother.

The Duchess of Sussex wore Diana’s diamond and sapphire earrings as she and Harry attended a celebration honoring David Foster’s 40 years of fundraising for the David Foster Foundation. The event took place in Victoria, British Columbia, on Aug. 7, followed by a public concert the next day.

Meghan paired the historic earrings with a dress by Canadian designer Greta Constantine, while Harry wore a traditional black tuxedo. The couple were among several high-profile guests at the event, which also included Adam Levine, Josh Groban and Foster’s wife, Katharine McPhee.

A Meaningful Connection to Diana

The jewelry choice is particularly notable because Meghan and Harry have recently been photographed visiting Althorp, the family estate where Princess Diana spent much of her childhood and where she was later laid to rest.

Meghan has worn pieces from Diana’s jewelry collection on several important occasions since marrying Harry. The Duchess previously wore Diana’s aquamarine ring during her wedding reception, making the late princess’s jewelry a recurring part of her public wardrobe.

The evening also highlighted Meghan and Harry’s long-standing friendship with David Foster. Their relationship with the Canadian musician goes back to 2019, when Foster helped the couple arrange a private place to stay on Vancouver Island during their transition away from royal life.

Foster later described himself as being happy to help Meghan and Harry find a temporary escape from the intense attention surrounding them at the time. The connection continued after the couple relocated to California, with Harry and Meghan later enjoying a double date with Foster and McPhee in Montecito.

Why Canada Matters to Harry and Meghan

Canada has an unusually important place in the couple’s story. Meghan was living in Toronto while filming Suits when her relationship with Harry began, and the couple made their first public appearance together at the 2017 Invictus Games in the city.

They later spent the 2019 holiday season in Canada with their son Archie and returned to Vancouver in 2025 for the Invictus Games.

Their latest appearance therefore brought together several parts of their personal history: Canada, close friends, the Invictus community and a subtle tribute to Diana. For Meghan, the decision to wear the sapphire earrings added another layer to an otherwise glamorous night out.
