Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Future Could Look Very Different After ‘Brand New Day’

Tom Holland’s future as Spider-Man could be heading in an unexpected direction after Spider-Man: Brand New Day became a major box-office success. However, the actor has previously suggested that his time in the role could eventually involve passing the mask to another hero.

Holland has another two Spider-Man films reportedly remaining under his current deal, along with additional Marvel appearances. That does not necessarily mean every future project will focus exclusively on Peter Parker, however.

The actor has already spoken about having a vision for eventually passing the Spider-Man mantle to another character. He has also expressed interest in bringing Miles Morales into the live-action Marvel universe, although no such casting or storyline has been officially confirmed.

That could open the door to a different kind of Spider-Man story, with Holland’s Peter Parker potentially becoming a mentor rather than remaining the only hero behind the mask. The idea would also allow Marvel to keep Holland involved while introducing a new generation of Spider-Man fans to Miles.

Holland is reportedly not expected to have a major role in Avengers: Doomsday, although speculation continues about his involvement in future Marvel projects. The multiverse storyline surrounding Secret Wars has also fueled fan theories about possible encounters between different versions of Spider-Man.

For now, though, fans should separate confirmed plans from speculation. Sony and Marvel have not officially announced Miles Morales as Holland’s replacement, nor have they confirmed the exact projects covered by Holland’s remaining Marvel commitments.

What appears increasingly clear is that Marvel has plenty of options. Holland could continue as Peter Parker for years, eventually become a mentor, or share the spotlight with another Spider-Man. The character may be bigger than any single actor, which gives Marvel a way to keep the franchise moving even when Holland eventually decides it is time to step away.
