Trump Issues Fresh Warning to Tehran
President Donald Trump has warned that the United States would respond with overwhelming military force if Iran attempted to carry out any attack against him. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the U.S. military was prepared to take decisive action if Iranian leaders acted on reported assassination threats.
His comments followed recent media reports that Israeli intelligence shared information with U.S. officials regarding alleged threats against the president. U.S. officials have since indicated there was no evidence of a newly uncovered assassination plot, but rather continuing intelligence about longstanding threats from Iranian-linked actors.
Treasury Announces New Sanctions
At the same time, the U.S. Treasury Department announced sanctions against Ali Ansari, an alleged Iranian financial facilitator accused of managing assets linked to members of Iran’s leadership. U.S. officials said the sanctions are part of broader efforts to increase economic pressure on Tehran following renewed regional tensions.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the United States will continue using financial sanctions to target individuals and networks that support Iran’s leadership.
Iran Rejects U.S. Actions
Iran strongly criticized the new sanctions, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arguing they violate understandings reached during previous negotiations between Washington and Tehran. He insisted Iran had honored its commitments while accusing the United States of failing to do the same.
Iranian state-affiliated media also reported that Araghchi traveled to Oman, where mediators have continued working to reduce tensions and encourage further diplomatic talks between the two countries.
Diplomatic Efforts Continue Despite Rising Tensions
Although military rhetoric has intensified, officials from both sides have indicated that communication channels remain open. Trump recently said discussions with Iran are expected to continue even as both governments exchange sharp public statements.
The situation remains fluid, with global attention focused on the Strait of Hormuz, ongoing diplomatic efforts in Oman, and whether negotiations can prevent further escalation in the region.
