Caroline Kennedy delivered an emotional and deeply personal tribute to her late daughter, Tatiana Schlossberg, during the 2026 JFK Profile in Courage Award ceremony in Boston.
Tatiana, an environmental journalist and author, died in December 2025 at the age of 35 after battling acute myeloid leukemia, a rare and aggressive form of blood cancer.
Speaking before a packed audience at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library, Kennedy reflected on her daughter’s life, character, and enduring impact, at times struggling to hold back tears.
“Most of All, We Remember Tatiana”
Near the conclusion of her remarks, Kennedy turned her attention to her daughter, prompting one of the most emotional moments of the evening.
“Most of all, we remember Tatiana,” she said.
She went on to describe Tatiana as someone who embodied the values that have long defined the Kennedy family.
“She served on this library’s board with extraordinary dedication and brought intelligence, curiosity, compassion, and a deep commitment to public service to everything she did,” Kennedy told the audience.
As she continued speaking, her voice cracked while recalling her daughter’s influence on those around her.
“She believed deeply in the power of facts, in the importance of protecting our planet, and in helping people understand the challenges facing future generations,” Kennedy said. “She approached every issue with thoughtfulness and integrity.”
The audience responded with a prolonged standing ovation as Kennedy paused to compose herself.

Tatiana built a respected career covering climate, science, and environmental issues. She worked as a reporter for The New York Times and later authored the book Inconspicuous Consumption, which explored the hidden environmental consequences of everyday choices.

In November 2025, Tatiana publicly revealed her terminal diagnosis in a deeply personal essay. In it, she reflected on her battle with leukemia, her role as a mother, and the realities of facing a life-threatening illness at a young age.
