Caroline Kennedy delivered an emotional and deeply personal tribute to her late daughter, Tatiana Schlossberg, during the 2026 JFK Profile in Courage Award ceremony in Boston.
Tatiana, an environmental journalist and author, died in December 2025 at the age of 35 after battling acute myeloid leukemia, a rare and aggressive form of blood cancer.

Speaking before a packed audience at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library, Kennedy reflected on her daughter’s life, character, and enduring impact, at times struggling to hold back tears.
“Most of All, We Remember Tatiana”
Near the conclusion of her remarks, Kennedy turned her attention to her daughter, prompting one of the most emotional moments of the evening.
“Most of all, we remember Tatiana,” she said.
She went on to describe Tatiana as someone who embodied the values that have long defined the Kennedy family.
“She served on this library’s board with extraordinary dedication and brought intelligence, curiosity, compassion, and a deep commitment to public service to everything she did,” Kennedy told the audience.
As she continued speaking, her voice cracked while recalling her daughter’s influence on those around her.
“She believed deeply in the power of facts, in the importance of protecting our planet, and in helping people understand the challenges facing future generations,” Kennedy said. “She approached every issue with thoughtfulness and integrity.”
The audience responded with a prolonged standing ovation as Kennedy paused to compose herself.
Reflecting on Tatiana’s Character
Kennedy devoted much of her speech to celebrating not only Tatiana’s professional accomplishments but also the qualities that made her beloved by family and friends.
“She was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, sister, and friend,” Kennedy said. “She brought joy and laughter wherever she went, and she had an extraordinary ability to connect with people.”
She also spoke about Tatiana’s resilience throughout her illness.
“Even during the most difficult moments, she remained focused on others,” Kennedy said. “She continued to think about her children, her family, her work, and the causes she cared about.”
A Life Dedicated to Journalism and Public Service
Tatiana built a respected career covering climate, science, and environmental issues. She worked as a reporter for The New York Times and later authored the book Inconspicuous Consumption, which explored the hidden environmental consequences of everyday choices.
Her reporting and writing earned praise for making complex environmental issues accessible to a broad audience.
In November 2025, Tatiana publicly revealed her terminal diagnosis in a deeply personal essay. In it, she reflected on her battle with leukemia, her role as a mother, and the realities of facing a life-threatening illness at a young age.
Family Continues Her Legacy
During her remarks, Kennedy also acknowledged the support of Tatiana’s extended family, including her in-laws, Garrett and Mary Moran.
She thanked them for their love and support throughout the difficult months following Tatiana’s diagnosis and death.
Tatiana is survived by her husband, George Moran, and their two young children.

Kennedy spoke movingly about the importance of preserving Tatiana’s memory for future generations.
“We will continue to tell her story,” she said. “We will make sure her children know who she was, what she stood for, and how deeply she was loved.”
A Kennedy Family Tragedy
Tatiana’s death marked another heartbreaking chapter for one of America’s most prominent political families.
In the months since her passing, colleagues, friends, and relatives have remembered her as a gifted journalist, a devoted mother, and a compassionate advocate for environmental awareness.
Many have noted that she carried forward the Kennedy family’s longstanding commitment to public service while forging her own path through journalism and environmental advocacy.
An Unforgettable Moment
For many attendees, Caroline Kennedy’s tribute became the defining moment of the ceremony.

Her heartfelt words offered a glimpse into the profound grief of a mother mourning her daughter while also celebrating a life that touched countless people.
As the audience rose to its feet in applause, Kennedy’s remarks served as a powerful reminder that behind even the most famous family names are deeply personal stories of love, loss, courage, and resilience.
