David Kendall, the producer and director behind the hit 1990s sitcom Boy Meets World, has died. His passing was confirmed by former cast members in an emotional tribute shared online.
The news was announced on May 2 via the Instagram account of the Pod Meets World podcast, hosted by Danielle Fishel, Ryder Strong, and Will Friedle — all of whom starred in the original series.
In their statement, the trio said Kendall played a key role not only in the success of the show, but also in shaping their early careers.
“We are devastated to lose such an important person in our lives, both professionally and personally,” the post read. “We have lost a vital piece of our family.”
They also encouraged fans to remember him when revisiting the series, particularly Seasons 2 and 3, when Kendall served as showrunner.
A Key Figure in 90s and 2000s TV
Kendall was credited as an executive producer on Boy Meets World, and also worked as a director and writer across multiple popular television series.
His television credits include directing episodes of shows such as Hannah Montana, Victorious, and Big Time Rush. He also contributed to earlier hit series including Growing Pains.
The podcast tribute highlighted his broader influence on television comedy, describing him as someone who helped shape “some of TV’s most memorable sitcoms.”
“He directed, wrote and executive produced our show, but also helped mold some of TV’s most memorable sitcoms,” the post added.
