Eric Roberts is speaking out after fans noticed he was absent from his daughter Emma Roberts’ wedding to actor Cody John.
The 70-year-old actor confirmed that he did not attend the intimate ceremony, which took place on July 25 in Sun Valley, Idaho, but made it clear there are no hard feelings.
“I love my daughter, always have, always will,” Eric told Page Six. “It is perfectly wonderful for her to celebrate however she wants, with whomever she wants.”
A Complicated Family History
Eric welcomed Emma with ex-partner Kelly Cunningham in 1991. He has previously spoken openly about his past struggles with drug addiction, revealing that he lost custody of Emma when she was very young.
Earlier this year, he reflected on that difficult period, admitting he wasn’t emotionally dependable at the time of her birth. However, he pushed back against suggestions that he and Emma are estranged, saying their relationship only appears complicated from the outside.
A Star-Studded Celebration
Although Eric wasn’t at the ceremony, several family members were there to celebrate the couple’s big day.
Emma’s aunt, Julia Roberts, attended alongside her husband, Danny Moder. Emma’s 5-year-old son, Rhodes, whom she shares with former partner Garrett Hedlund, also took part in the celebration.
The actress wore a custom Monique Lhuillier wedding gown, while Cody John chose a brown suit for the outdoor ceremony overlooking a river.
A New Chapter Together
Emma and Cody first went public with their relationship in 2022 and announced their engagement in 2025 after several years together.
With the wedding now official, Eric’s public message suggests that despite his absence, he fully supports his daughter’s decision and wishes the newlyweds happiness as they begin married life.
