FBI Says Investigation Remains Active
In its latest statement, the FBI’s Phoenix field office said it has received “several” ransom-related communications during the investigation. Some have been identified as extortion attempts with no connection to the case, while others remain under active review because they could be legitimate.
The clarification came after earlier media reports, citing anonymous sources, indicated that the most widely publicized ransom notes had all been dismissed. The FBI has since emphasized that investigators are continuing to examine every credible lead while working alongside the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
