Federal authorities say they disrupted an alleged attack targeting the UFC Freedom 250 event held at the White House, leading to multiple arrests just days before the high-profile gathering.
According to the FBI, investigators became aware of a potential threat on June 10, four days before the event took place on the White House South Lawn. The event, attended by President Donald Trump and thousands of spectators, was held as part of celebrations marking America’s 250th anniversary.
Five Arrested in Multi-State Investigation
Authorities say five people have been taken into custody, while investigators identified more than 20 additional individuals who may have been connected to the alleged planning efforts. The arrests reportedly involved suspects from several states, including Ohio, Missouri, and California.
The investigation involved multiple FBI field offices and law enforcement agencies working together across state lines.
Alleged Plan Involved Drones and Snipers
Court documents and law enforcement sources allege the group discussed a multi-stage attack involving explosive-laden drones targeting nearby buildings. Investigators say the goal was allegedly to create panic and force crowds to evacuate before directing fleeing attendees toward sniper positions.
Authorities further allege that a second phase involved plans to breach security around the White House grounds. Investigators uncovered discussions through encrypted messaging platforms and other digital communications.
FBI Director Praises Rapid Response
FBI Director Kash Patel said the agency and its partners acted quickly after receiving information about the threat.
In a public statement, Patel said the alleged attacks were “stopped cold” through a coordinated operation involving federal, state, and local authorities.
Officials have emphasized that the investigation remains active, and additional details are expected to emerge as court proceedings continue.
Event Went Ahead as Planned
Despite the alleged threat, the UFC event proceeded without any major security incidents. Thousands attended the event, including military personnel, government officials, and members of the Trump family.
Most attendees were unaware of the investigation until authorities publicly announced the arrests after the event had concluded.
Questions Remain
While investigators have outlined the alleged plot, prosecutors are expected to provide further details as charges are formally presented in court.
The case is likely to draw significant attention given the prominence of the event, the presence of the president, and the scale of the alleged planning described by federal authorities.
