Message Addressed Directly to Savannah Guthrie

New details have emerged about the first ransom note sent after the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie.

Nancy, 84, has been missing since Jan. 31 after investigators believe she was abducted from her home in Tucson, Arizona. Surveillance footage reportedly showed a masked individual near her property before she vanished.

According to crime journalist Briana Whitney, who discussed the case on the Crime Junkie podcast, the note began with the chilling words:

“Hello, Savannah. We have your mother.”

Millions Demanded for Nancy’s Release

Whitney said the note claimed Nancy was alive but frightened and demanded a multimillion-dollar ransom in Bitcoin.

The message reportedly set two payment deadlines, warning that if the final deadline passed without payment, Nancy would be killed. It also instructed the family not to involve law enforcement and claimed there would be “no negotiation.”

Investigators have not confirmed who sent the note, but reports indicate the FBI continues to examine it as potentially legitimate evidence.

Second Note Claimed Nancy Had Died

Months later, a second ransom note was reportedly sent to the Guthrie family and several media organizations.

According to previous reports, that message claimed Nancy had died but did not request additional money or provide information about the location of her body.

Authorities have not publicly confirmed the claims made in either note, and the investigation remains active.

Savannah Guthrie Makes Emotional Plea

During an emotional appearance on the Today show, Savannah urged anyone with information to come forward.

She said her family’s life has been consumed by uncertainty since her mother’s disappearance.

“We’re begging for your help,” Savannah said, adding that she and her family continue to live in “agony” while hoping for answers.

She later revealed that balancing work with the ongoing search has been incredibly difficult, saying she often cries before and after each broadcast but remains determined to be there for her family and viewers.

Investigation Ongoing

The FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department continue to investigate Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance. Officials are asking anyone with information that could help the case to contact law enforcement.
