New information has surfaced following the death of Kyle Busch, revealing the NASCAR star had sought medical attention during a race weekend just two weeks before his passing.

Busch died Thursday at the age of 41 after what his family described as a “severe illness,” sending shockwaves through the racing world.

Now, fans are revisiting comments and radio messages from earlier this month that hinted something may have been seriously wrong.

Busch Mentioned a “Substantial Cough”

During race weekend at Watkins Glen International on May 10, Busch was heard over team radio asking for medical assistance after struggling with what commentators initially described as a sinus issue.

“Tell him I need him after the race, please. I’m gonna need a shot,” Busch reportedly said while requesting to see Dr. Bill Heisel, a lead physician connected to NASCAR medical care.

Days later, Busch admitted to reporters that he still was not feeling well.

“The cough was pretty substantial last week,” he said in comments shared by racing reporter Jeff Gluck.

At this time, officials have not confirmed whether the illness mentioned earlier in the month was connected to the condition that later led to his hospitalization and death.

NASCAR Announces Tragic Passing

NASCAR, Richard Childress Racing, and the Busch family later released a joint statement confirming the two-time Cup Series champion’s death.

The statement described Busch as “a future Hall of Famer” and “a rare talent” whose impact on the sport stretched across more than two decades.

Officials also praised his passion, competitiveness, and influence on younger drivers through his Truck Series team ownership.

Family Moments Before His Death

Just days before his passing, Busch shared emotional family posts celebrating milestones with his children.

On May 18, he posted a heartfelt birthday tribute for his son Brexton, who had just turned 11. Busch wrote that he and wife Samantha were “so proud” of the young racer and praised his determination both on and off the track.

Final Social Media Posts Now Taking on New Meaning

Earlier in May, Busch also celebrated Mother’s Day and daughter Lennix’s fourth birthday with another emotional message about family.

“My girls deserve the spotlight today,” he wrote, thanking Samantha and his mother while calling himself lucky “to do life” with them.

Following news of his death, fans flooded the comments of those posts with tributes, condolences, and memories of one of NASCAR’s most recognizable stars.

A Legacy That Will Not Be Forgotten

Busch leaves behind a career that placed him among NASCAR’s all-time greats, including two Cup Series championships and dozens of victories across every national division.

Known to fans as “Rowdy,” he built one of the sport’s most passionate followings while also helping mentor future drivers through his racing organization.

For many fans, his final family messages now stand as heartbreaking reminders of how suddenly everything changed.
