Kate Middleton has offered a rare and emotional glimpse into how her cancer treatment affected her family, speaking candidly during a recent visit to a cancer center in Manchester.
The Princess of Wales, 44, opened up while meeting patients at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust on June 4, where she highlighted the importance of emotional and holistic care for people undergoing treatment.
Kate Reflects On The Impact On Her Family
During the visit, Kate met breast cancer patient Claire Lorente, who was celebrating her final day of treatment by ringing the hospital’s ceremonial bell. As the pair embraced, Kate turned her attention to the emotional toll cancer takes on loved ones.
“I know it’s just as hard for families and loved ones,” the princess said. “I know how hard it was for the children and my parents. You go through it with them.”
The heartfelt comment offered one of the clearest insights yet into how deeply her health battle affected not only herself, but also Prince William, their three children, and her parents.
How William And Kate Handled The Diagnosis At Home
Kate and Prince William share Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. The royal couple previously revealed they made a conscious decision to be open with their children about her diagnosis and treatment.
Prince William later explained during an interview tied to the 2025 Earthshot Prize Awards that they chose honesty over secrecy when speaking with their children.
“Most of the time, hiding stuff from them doesn’t work,” William said, adding that the family tried to keep life feeling as normal as possible throughout the difficult period.
According to royal sources quoted in recent reports, Kate remained focused on protecting her children emotionally during treatment and regularly stayed connected with them while recovering through video calls and daily conversations.
Kate’s Cancer Journey
Kate first revealed in March 2024 that she was undergoing treatment for cancer following abdominal surgery. While the specific form of cancer was never publicly disclosed, she later confirmed she had completed chemotherapy in September 2024.
In January 2025, the Princess of Wales shared that she was officially in remission.
Her latest comments have resonated strongly online, with many royal fans praising her honesty and the way she continues using her platform to support other families facing cancer diagnoses.
