The family of late NASCAR champion Kyle Busch received an emotional tribute from thousands of fans during the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 24, just days after the racing icon’s death at age 41. Busch died after severe pneumonia rapidly progressed into sepsis, according to a statement released by his family.
Kyle’s wife, Samantha Busch, attended the event alongside their children, Brexton and Lennix. Also present were his parents, Tom and Gaye Busch, and his older brother, NASCAR Hall of Famer Kurt Busch. The family gathered in the speedway’s infield as NASCAR paid tribute to one of the sport’s most successful drivers.

NASCAR Honors a Racing Legend
During a special ceremony, NASCAR executives and fans reflected on Busch’s remarkable career and his impact on the sport. Tributes throughout the weekend included commemorative decals, moments of silence and displays honoring the two-time Cup Series champion.
NASCAR CEO Steve O’Donnell praised Busch not only for his accomplishments on the track but also for the support and guidance he quietly offered teammates and fellow drivers throughout his career. His remarks drew an emotional response from fans in attendance.
Future Tribute for His Son
Richard Childress Racing announced that Busch’s No. 8 car will be retired for the foreseeable future. The organization also revealed that the number is being reserved for his son, Brexton, should he choose to pursue a racing career in the future.
The decision adds another layer of significance to a number that became closely associated with Busch’s success and popularity among NASCAR fans.
Remembering a NASCAR Great
Busch was widely regarded as one of the most accomplished drivers in NASCAR history, winning championships in 2015 and 2019 while setting records across the sport’s top national series. His sudden death sent shockwaves through the racing community and prompted tributes from drivers, teams and fans around the world.
As family members stood together at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the tribute served as a reminder of the legacy Busch leaves behind, both as a competitor and as a devoted husband and father.
