A 16-year-old girl was abducted at gunpoint from a school bus stop in a residential area near Detroit, Michigan, early Monday morning. The incident, which occurred just before 7 a.m., was captured on surveillance video showing a gray SUV pull up near the bus stop. A man exited the vehicle, approached the victim, and pointed a gun at her before forcing her into the SUV and driving away.
The Hamtramck Police Department obtained emergency 911 audio in which a schoolmate of the victim, a minor, described the abduction. The caller noted the suspect was wearing a mask and, despite becoming emotional, provided descriptions of both the victim and the man responsible.
Authorities responded quickly and located the missing teenager approximately 30 minutes after the abduction at a Sunoco gas station. The suspect, identified as 48-year-old Donald Fields, was arrested at the scene. Fields has a criminal history and is currently being held in Wayne County Jail without bond.
Fields has been arraigned and charged by the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, one count of kidnapping, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, felonious assault, and five counts of felony firearm possession. He is also charged as a third-time habitual offender. Details regarding the sexual conduct and assault charges have not been publicly disclosed.
Police indicated that the victim was not known to Fields and that the abduction appeared to be random. The swift police intervention resulted in the victim being safely recovered with no injuries reported. The investigation remains ongoing.
