Federal authorities have identified Abraham Hermosillo Alvarez as the alleged organizer of a disrupted plot targeting the UFC Freedom 250 event held at the White House earlier this month.
According to court filings and Justice Department documents, Alvarez is accused of helping coordinate a plan involving explosive-equipped drones and sniper teams that investigators say was intended to cause mass casualties during the high-profile event. Authorities stress that the allegations remain unproven and will be tested in court.
Immigration Status Draws Attention
The Department of Homeland Security said Alvarez is originally from Mexico and received protection under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program after arriving in the United States as a child. DHS officials stated that Immigration and Customs Enforcement has lodged a detainer against him following his arrest.

The revelation has quickly fueled political debate over immigration policy, with administration officials arguing the case highlights weaknesses in the system.
What Investigators Allege
Federal prosecutors say Alvarez used the name “Shepherd” in encrypted group chats where participants allegedly discussed targeting the UFC Freedom 250 event. Court documents claim he helped organize operational planning, including discussions involving drones, potential sniper positions, and escape routes.
Authorities allege the broader network involved more than just the five men currently charged, with investigators continuing to examine connections to additional individuals.
FBI Says Plot Was Stopped Before It Advanced
The FBI launched an investigation after receiving information about the alleged scheme and ultimately carried out arrests across multiple states. Officials say the operation prevented any attack from occurring and that none of the alleged plans were executed.
Vice President JD Vance later described the alleged plot as relatively undeveloped when authorities intervened, while emphasizing the importance of the FBI’s response.
Potential Penalties
If convicted, the defendants could face severe federal penalties, including life imprisonment for conspiracy-related charges tied to the alleged attack plan. Prosecutors have not yet indicated when a trial could begin.
A Story With Political Implications
The case has attracted national attention because it touches on several contentious issues at once: presidential security, domestic extremism, immigration policy, and the growing use of drones in alleged criminal plots.
For now, the allegations remain accusations, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. The investigation is ongoing as federal authorities continue reviewing evidence and identifying any additional participants.
