Paris Jackson is speaking candidly about her past struggles with addiction, months after revealing the lasting physical damage drug use caused to her nose.
The daughter of the late Michael Jackson has been sober for several years and says sharing her story may help others facing similar battles.
The Lasting Damage
Last year, Jackson shocked followers when she revealed she has a perforated septum, a hole in the tissue that separates the nostrils.
In a video shared online, she warned others about the consequences of drug use, explaining that the damage remains with her today and even causes a noticeable whistling sound when she breathes through her nose.
“It ruined my life,” she said while discussing her past addiction.

Multiple Attempts At Recovery
Appearing on Trying Not To Die, Jackson revealed that getting sober was not a straightforward process.
She explained that she entered treatment several times before finally achieving long-term sobriety, adding that overcoming one addiction often led to another challenge.
“You put one thing down, you pick up another,” she said while reflecting on her experience with drugs and alcohol.
Turning Pain Into Purpose
One of the most powerful moments of the interview came when Jackson explained why she chooses to speak publicly about addiction.
“I do see these trials and tribulations… as a superpower,” she said.
According to Jackson, painful experiences can eventually become something positive if people learn from them and use them to help others facing similar struggles.
“Medicine For Other People”
The singer said she believes sharing difficult experiences can have value beyond her own recovery.
“When we go through the process of healing it… it can become medicine for other people,” she explained.
“Our experience can benefit other people. The more painful that piece of suffering is, the more potent that medicine can be for someone else.”
A Broader Mental Health Battle
Jackson has also previously discussed living with treatment-resistant major depressive disorder, describing sobriety as a difficult journey that felt endless at times.
Her willingness to discuss both addiction and mental health has earned praise from supporters who say her openness helps reduce stigma surrounding recovery.
Rebuilding Her Life
Today, Jackson continues to focus on her music, personal growth, and maintaining her sobriety.
While the physical reminders of her addiction remain, she says those experiences now serve as part of a larger story about healing, resilience, and helping others who may be struggling with similar challenges.
