Poland says it is in discussions with the United States about hosting the production of Patriot air-defense missiles for Ukraine, a move that could strengthen Kyiv’s defenses while addressing concerns over manufacturing the weapons inside a war zone.
Poland Offers to Host Missile Production
Deputy Defense Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka said Warsaw has proposed joining a U.S.-Ukraine initiative to produce Patriot missiles by hosting the manufacturing in Poland.
She explained that the proposal aims to provide a safer location for production while ensuring continued support for Ukraine’s air-defense capabilities.
Talks Continue Between Three Countries
According to the deputy minister, the proposal was presented during meetings at both the Pentagon and the U.S. State Department.
She said trilateral discussions involving Poland, the United States, and Ukraine will continue as officials explore the logistics, security, and future of the project.
Patriot Missiles Remain a Key Priority
The discussions follow President Donald Trump’s announcement at the NATO summit earlier this month that Ukraine would receive a license to produce Patriot air-defense missiles, one of the country’s most sought-after defense systems.
Poland believes hosting production would help overcome concerns about manufacturing the missiles inside Ukraine while supporting the long-term supply of the systems.
Broader Defense Cooperation on the Table
Warsaw also proposed creating a Patriot missile service center in Poland to support maintenance and repairs.
In addition, officials discussed expanding the U.S. military presence in Poland, European defense financing, and a proposed $4 billion U.S. loan to help Poland purchase additional American-made weapons.
