Prince Jackson has opened up about what life was really like growing up with his father, Michael Jackson—and his memories paint a surprisingly magical picture.

Speaking following the release of the upcoming biopic Michael, the 29-year-old reflected on his unique childhood at Neverland Ranch, admitting that what once felt normal now seems anything but.

“As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned that a lot of what I think is normal life is not normal life,” Prince said during an interview.

“For us, it was hanging out together as a family—but with elephants and giraffes walking in the background.”

Despite the extraordinary setting, Prince says the core of his upbringing was simple family time—playing board games, reading, and watching movies together.

“It truly was, and is, magical. It felt like your own personal Disneyland,” he added.

A ‘Childlike’ Dad Behind Closed Doors

Prince described his father as an “awesome” and deeply involved parent, highlighting his playful and imaginative nature.

“When he played with us, he really played—getting down with the toys, making up stories,” he recalled.

“He had a very childlike nature. He loved pranks and just having fun.”

Those qualities, Prince says, are something he hopes to carry into his own future as a parent.

Emotional Reaction to Biopic

Prince is also serving as an executive producer on the film, which stars Jaafar Jackson as the late singer.

Watching the film proved to be an emotional experience.

“It was really emotional because I hadn’t seen my dad in a long time,” he said.

“My first reaction was that I just wanted to hug him. It felt just like my dad.”

He admitted he even had to step away while watching, overwhelmed by memories.

“I told Jaafar, ‘I love you, you’re doing great—but I need a moment.’”

The Moments He Misses Most

Among his most treasured memories are quiet, personal moments—like being woken up at night to look at the stars.

“Sometimes he’d tell me about his childhood or what he wanted for my future,” Prince shared.

“Those are the moments I miss and cherish the most.”

A Lasting Legacy

Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009, at the age of 50. His death was ruled a homicide caused by acute propofol intoxication.

His personal doctor, Conrad Murray, was later convicted of involuntary manslaughter.

Despite the controversies that surrounded his life, Prince’s reflections offer a more intimate look at the man behind the global icon—one defined by laughter, imagination, and a deep love for his children.
