New details have emerged following the death of Stewart McLean, with one of the actor’s close friends revealing he feared something was seriously wrong days before McLean was found dead.

The 45-year-old actor, known for appearances in Virgin River and several CW dramas, was discovered dead in British Columbia as authorities continue investigating the case as a homicide.

Friend became concerned after missed filming day

Actor and acting coach Jeff Seymour said he immediately sensed “big trouble” after McLean unexpectedly failed to appear for a scheduled filming commitment last week.

“He was meticulous about everything and there would be no chance he blew it off or slept too late,” Seymour told The Canadian Press.

“As soon as I heard he didn’t make it on Saturday morning, I knew there was big trouble.”

According to police, McLean was last seen at his residence in Lions Bay on May 15 before being reported missing several days later.

Homicide investigation underway

The Squamish Royal Canadian Mounted Police initially launched a missing persons investigation before later announcing they believed McLean may have been the victim of homicide.

Canada’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team later confirmed that his remains had been located in the Lions Bay area.

Investigators are continuing to review evidence, surveillance footage, and witness statements as they work to establish what happened before the actor’s disappearance.

“It just doesn’t make any sense”

Seymour, who said he became close friends with McLean around eight years ago, described the actor as highly aware of his surroundings and said he struggles to understand how the tragedy could have happened.

“For the life of me, I don’t know how anybody could get the drop on Stew,” he said.

The acting coach also reflected emotionally on the shock of losing his friend.

“It’s so crushing, and it hits me in ways I’ll suddenly think, ah, Stu, and I realize I can’t call him now.”

Colleagues describe him as kind and private

According to Seymour, McLean largely kept to himself outside of acting and preferred a quiet lifestyle focused on reading and spending time at home.

“Everybody loved this guy,” he said, adding that McLean was not involved in any dangerous circles or suspicious activity.

Friends and colleagues have continued sharing tributes online, describing the actor as professional, thoughtful, and deeply respected within the industry.

Career across television

Beyond his role in Virgin River, McLean appeared in several popular television series including Arrow, Supernatural, and The 100.

His death has left fans and fellow actors stunned as investigators continue searching for answers.

Investigation continues

Authorities have not yet publicly identified any suspects or released details about a possible motive.

Seymour said he hopes those responsible are eventually brought to justice, calling the actor’s death “a shocker” that still feels impossible to process.
