Tom Holland Gets Brutally Honest About His Film Career
Tom Holland isn’t pretending every movie he’s has made has been a success. While promoting his latest films, the actor admitted that some of his past projects were difficult to stand behind because he simply didn’t believe they were very good.
Speaking on the Dish Podcast, Holland said promoting a movie is much easier when you genuinely believe audiences will enjoy it.
“You Shouldn’t Watch It”
The Spider-Man star revealed that there were times during past press tours when he struggled to answer questions about why people should see one of his films.
Recalling those moments with humor, Holland said he would sometimes think to himself that audiences shouldn’t watch the movie because he didn’t feel it lived up to expectations. However, he deliberately chose not to identify which films he was referring to.
Proud of His Latest Projects
Today, Holland says the experience is completely different. He is currently promoting both The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, describing the experience as a “victory lap.”
According to Holland, talking about projects he truly believes in makes interviews much more enjoyable because he can honestly recommend them to audiences.
A Career Filled With Major Milestones
Holland first gained attention on London’s West End in Billy Elliot the Musical before making his film debut in The Impossible (2012), a performance that earned widespread praise.
His career reached another level when he was cast as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, becoming one of the most recognizable faces in the Marvel Cinematic Universe through films including Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and the Spider-Man franchise.
Not Every Film Finds Its Audience
Like many actors, Holland’s career has included both critical successes and films that received mixed reviews. Beyond Marvel, he has appeared in movies such as Cherry, Chaos Walking, The Devil All the Time, and Uncharted.
His comments highlight a reality many performers acknowledge: not every project becomes a hit, and actors themselves are often among the first to recognize when a film falls short.
Looking Ahead
Despite reflecting honestly on parts of his filmography, Holland appears focused on the future. With Spider-Man: Brand New Day generating significant anticipation and The Odyssey attracting attention from audiences, the actor says he is enjoying a period where he feels genuinely proud of his work.
