A YouTuber has documented a dangerous and highly controversial trip to one of the world’s most restricted locations — an island so hazardous that authorities officially prohibit public access.
A Place Full of Venom
Ilha da Queimada Grande, located off the coast of São Paulo, Brazil, is widely known as “Snake Island.”

The reason is extreme: it’s home to an estimated thousands of snakes, including the highly venomous Bothrops insularis.
Experts warn its bite can be fatal within hours, making the island one of the most dangerous ecosystems on Earth.
Because of this, access is strictly prohibited, with rare exceptions only for licensed researchers accompanied by medical personnel.
The Secret Visit
Despite the ban, YouTuber Miles Routledge (known online as “Lord Miles”) claimed to have reached the island and filmed his experience.

He described evading Brazilian authorities before landing on the shore and exploring inland terrain toward an abandoned lighthouse.
At one point, he admitted he thought he was in serious danger, especially after encountering rough terrain and limited supplies.
“I thought I was screwed,” he said during the journey.
Inside the Island
Dressed in improvised protective gear, he trekked through dense vegetation toward the lighthouse, a structure surrounded by local myths and warnings.
However, he reportedly encountered far fewer snakes than expected, saying the experience felt more physically exhausting than life-threatening.

He later joked that dehydration posed more risk than wildlife during parts of the journey.
“I Guess I Survived”
After making it back to the boat safely, he concluded the video by reflecting on the experience:
“I guess I survived Snake Island.”
He credited luck, timing, and avoiding detection by both snakes and authorities for the successful exit.
Not the First Dangerous Report
Journalists have also visited the island under controlled conditions.
A 2019 investigation by reporter Tara Brown for 60 Minutes included scientific guidance and medical support. Experts accompanying her warned that a bite could cause an extremely painful and potentially fatal reaction.
Why the Island Is So Restricted
Snake Island remains closed to the public due to:
- Extremely high density of venomous snakes
- Lack of emergency medical access
- High risk of fatal envenomation
- Environmental protection of a unique ecosystem
Bottom Line
While the video has drawn attention online, experts consistently stress that the island is not a tourist destination under any circumstances.
Even controlled visits require strict scientific oversight — and for good reason.
